In its first expansion, Jersey City Global Charter School has obtained rights to develop a 9,200 square foot, 2-story former convent owned by the Newark Archdiocese into a state-of-the art educational facility for grades 6 through 8. The facility will allow approximately 140 additional students to the charter school. The building is located along the Western Slope section of the city, serving the Jersey City Heights community and beyond. Located across the street from the school’s principal building, the plan imagines flexible learning environments, bringing 10 new classroom spaces, a large multi-purpose space, as well as work and amenity spaces for teaching staff. A new atrium is proposed which bisects the second floor allowing natural sunlight to reach the ground floor.
